Best Season to Track Mountain Gorillas
Tracking mountain gorillas is one of Uganda’s most unforgettable experiences, and choosing the right season can greatly enhance your adventure. While gorilla trekking is possible year-round, certain months offer better conditions for both hiking and wildlife viewing.
The best time to track mountain gorillas is during the dry seasons—from June to September and December to February. During these months, the forest trails are less muddy, visibility is better, and the overall trekking experience is more comfortable. Wildlife is also more active and easier to spot amid the thinner undergrowth.
However, the wet seasons—March to May and October to November—have their advantages. The parks are quieter, permits are sometimes discounted, and the scenery is lush and vibrant. Treks during these months can be more challenging due to rain, but for adventurous travelers, it’s a rewarding experience.
No matter when you go, seeing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is an awe-inspiring moment that transcends the seasons.
